A Bengaluru woman who recently went missing in Udupi district has been found dead. The police suspect that the woman either died by suicide or may have drowned in the Souparnika River in Kollur.
The deceased has been identified as Vasudha Chakravarthy, 45, a resident of Thyagarajanagar in Bengaluru. Chakravarthy’s mother, Vimala, had informed the police that she had gone missing.
According to the police, Chakravarthy travelled alone in her car to Kollur and parked her vehicle at a guest house of Sri Mookambika Temple on August 27. After parking the vehicle, she did not return. Vimala tried to contact Chakravarthy over the phone, but without success. On August 28, Vimala informed the police.
Thereafter, the Kollur police registered a missing person’s complaint and started scanning CCTV footage. Upon checking CCTV footage, it was found that Chakravarthy had entered the Souparnika River and was swept away.
Locals, the Byndoor fire services team, and a team led by expert swimmer Eshwar Malpe carried out search operations. On August 30, the body of Chakravarthy was found 3 km from the spot where she had ventured into the water.
“Vasudha Chakravarthy is married, and she has separated from her husband. Her parents and brother took the body for cremation. During the probe, it was revealed that she was spiritually inclined, but we are yet to ascertain the reason behind her death. Presently, the water currents are strong due to the rains,” said a police officer.
