The Bengaluru police said Thursday they have arrested two men who, along with other cab drivers, allegedly attacked a woman and her family in the city’s Hulimavu area following a road rage incident late Sunday.
According to a police officer, the accused are cab drivers associated with a travel agency. The officer said the men claimed that the woman was driving the car rashly, and she was about to hit a dog that they were taking care of.
“The travel agency is less than 100 meters away from the apartment where the woman lives. After the dog escaped, the cab drivers tried to stop her vehicle. However, the woman had driven her car inside the apartment complex. The cab drivers then chased and attacked her father, and other family members. During the probe, we found that the cab drivers were drunk,” the police officer said.
The police said the men barged into the apartment complex, where the woman and her family live, at around 2.50 am, and vandalised the car and other properties before fleeing. The family filed a complaint on August 11.
The woman’s father, Mohammed Ishtiaq, said in his complaint that some unknown persons stopped their vehicle, being driven by his daughter, near their apartment in BTM Layout 4th stage. Ishtiaq alleged that the men attacked his daughter and other family members with stones, chased the car, and hit him when they were inside their apartment complex.
Later, Ishtiaq’s daughter told reporters she was driving the car when the unknown men attacked her and fearing for her life, she entered her apartment. She said the men also attacked Ishtiaq, who was waiting downstairs after getting a call from his daughter.
The Hulimavu police registered a case under sections 118 (1) (voluntarily causes grievous hurt), 126 (2) (wrongful restraint), 324(4) (mischief), 329 (4) (criminal trespass) and 352 (2) (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
