Karnataka Government clears feasibility study for the long-awaited Bengaluru-Tumakuru Metro line, with DPR preparation under PPP model set to begin.
The Karnataka Government has given the green light for a feasibility study on the long-awaited Bengaluru-Tumakuru Metro extension, signaling progress for the ambitious project. Home Minister G Parameshwara announced the development in Tumakuru on Monday.

According to Parameshwara, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) conducted the feasibility study after awarding a ₹3 crore contract to a Hyderabad-based firm. The study has now been submitted to the government, paving the way for the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, also estimated at ₹3 crore.
The proposed metro extension will span 59.6 km, linking Madavara on Bengaluru Metro’s Green Line to Tumakuru, providing a vital rapid transit option between the two cities. The first phase of the project is projected to cost ₹20,649 crore, with several private companies expressing interest in execution.

Currently, Bengaluru’s operational metro network includes the Green Line (33.46 km), the Purple Line (43.5 km), and the Yellow Line (18.8 km). The Madavara-Tumakuru line aims to boost connectivity, reduce travel time, and strengthen commuter options for the north-western corridor.
