The Central Crime Branch (CCB) and Cubbon Park police in Bengaluru conducted a raid early Sunday morning at J W Marriott Hotel on Vittal Mallya Road, allegedly following information that it was operating beyond permitted hours. During the search, officers found that more than 80 people were participating in a late-night party on the premises.
The Cubbon Park police later booked the hotel management for violating restrictions pertaining to operating hours. According to officers, acting on a tip-off, they searched the luxury hotel around 2 am. The operation continued for two hours as they investigated potential violations of operating regulations and suspected substance abuse.
Despite the hotel appearing closed during routine patrol checks, the police discovered the ongoing party inside the premises. As per regulations, all restaurants and hotels in Bengaluru must cease operations by 1 am.
The police also subjected party attendees to blood tests on suspicion of contraband usage, but no drugs were physically recovered during the searches. According to the officers, the test results subsequently revealed that one participant, a 27-year-old man, tested positive for drug consumption and was issued a notice by the authorities. His blood sample has been sent for further examination.
“Sometimes heavy alcohol intake can also result in a positive drug test, which is why we have sent his blood sample for a higher-level analysis,” said a senior police officer associated with the searches.
