Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is set to introduce a fourth trainset on the Yellow Line on Wednesday, bringing much-needed relief to passengers travelling to and from Electronics City. This will significantly improve service frequency, reducing wait times from 25 minutes to approximately 19 minutes. According to BMRCL, the new trainset will be deployed after completing all mandatory mainline tests.
With the introduction of the fourth train, BMRCL has announced revised operational timings for the Yellow Line. Services will now operate at 19-minute intervals on all days, down from the current 25-minute frequency. From Monday to Saturday, metro services will begin at 6 am, which is 30 minutes earlier than the previous 6.30 am start time. Sunday services will continue to commence at 7 am as usual. The last train timings remain unchanged, with final departures at 11.55 pm from R V Road and 10.42 pm from Bommasandra.
BMRCL authorities noted that the Yellow Line serves approximately 80,000 passengers daily, including interchange passengers. The improved frequency is expected to enhance the travel experience for this significant ridership base. Looking ahead, BMRCL anticipates the arrival of additional trainsets to further improve services. Sources said that a fifth train was expected to be dispatched from Titagarh by September 19, with a sixth train set scheduled for delivery in the last week of October.
The 19-km Yellow Line, connecting R V Road to Bommasandra via Electronics City, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10. This crucial corridor serves one of Bengaluru’s major IT hubs, and passengers have been eagerly awaiting its full-fledged operations. In early September, Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya had urged authorities to expedite Yellow Line operations by airfreighting train bogies from China, highlighting the importance of this metro corridor for the city’s transportation network.
