A 26-year-old man killed his family friend, a neighbour, who allegedly verbally abused his mother, on Monday night in Bengaluru. The police reached the spot and arrested the accused, Karthik, after his mother informed the police that her son had fatally assaulted their neighbour. Karthik was produced before the magistrate on Tuesday.
According to the police, the victim, identified as Avinash, 36, a resident of Ullal Upanagara in Bengaluru West, was an alcoholic and allegedly insulted Karthik’s mother using offensive language at her residence around 10.30 pm on Monday. Karthik was away when the incident took place.
“Though Karthik’s mother, Sumangala, tried to calm him down, Avinash, who was in an inebriated state, continued to abuse her in filthy language. Then, she called Karthik over the phone,” said an officer.
Upon reaching the house, Karthik hit Avinash on the back of his head with a rod, and Avinash immediately collapsed to the ground and died on the spot, the police said.
Anitha B Haddannavar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South-West, who visited the spot, said, “Avinash used to work as a school bus driver, and he drove an autorickshaw for a living. But recently, he was unemployed. He is married and has two children, but has led an estranged life with his wife and children staying separated due to alcohol addiction,” she said.
Sumangala was running a small eating outlet where Avinash had also worked.
