Officers identified the arrested individual as Ananth, 64. He was produced before a court and sent to police custody for four days. Ananth’s wife Gayathri, 55, worked as a physical education teacher in a government school, the police said. The couple lived with their daughter, who is studying in Class 12.
Investigators said that around 6.15 pm on Saturday, Ananth told Gayathri that he was purchasing a property in Mittiganahalli and asked her to accompany him to the place. He took her to an under-construction building on a scooter. The two then went inside the building, where he allegedly hit her on the head repeatedly using a stone.

Around 8.30 pm, he called the emergency helpline for an ambulance, stating that his wife had met with a road accident, the police said. She was shifted to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. Initially, he told the traffic police that an unknown vehicle had hit her. However, the post-mortem report revealed that Gayathri suffered multiple injuries on her head with a blunt object, leading to her death.
The Bagalur police, which took up the case, questioned Ananth, and he confessed to the murder. An officer associated with the investigation said, “Ananth worked in a private firm before retiring. There was a domestic dispute between the husband and wife over financial issues, and Gayathri would pick fights whenever he asked for money. He decided to kill her and plotted a road accident story.”
Further probe is underway into the case, the police added.
