Bengaluru witnessed a tragic accident on Independence Day when a powerful cylinder explosion in Wilson Garden claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy and left nine others seriously injured. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who visited the site, announced ₹5 lakh compensation for the bereaved family and assured that the government will bear all medical expenses for the injured.

The blast occurred at the residence of Kasturamma, who also sustained severe injuries. The explosion’s intensity destroyed her home and damaged 13 neighbouring houses. One victim, a young boy, has reportedly lost his eyesight.
The deceased, identified as Mubarak (10), succumbed to injuries on the spot. The injured include Fatima (8), Sarasamma (50), Kayala (8), and Sabrina Banu (35), who were shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. Kasturamma is undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital, while Subrahmani (62) has been admitted to Agadi Hospital. Sheikh Najeeb Ullah (37) is receiving treatment at NIMHANS Hospital.
Police teams from Adugodi station, along with South Division DCP, inspected the site to ascertain the cause. Preliminary observations suggest a gas cylinder explosion, though further investigation is underway.
The blast left the Wilson Garden locality shaken, with residents describing a deafening sound and severe tremors that damaged walls and shattered windows across multiple homes. Authorities have assured swift relief measures, and restoration work is expected to begin soon.
