The death toll in the domestic cylinder explosion that took place at a house in south-eastern Bengaluru on Friday rose to three after a mother and her daughter, who were under treatment, died on Monday.
The deceased are Kasturiamma, 30, a domestic worker, and her daughter Kayal, 8, and both were natives of Tamil Nadu, the police said.
Earlier, a 10-year-old boy identified as Mubarak died and several others were injured following the blast in Kasturiamma’s house in Chinnayanpalya of Wilson Garden around 8 am on August 15.
The blast in the tightly packed residential neighbourhood led to the destruction of over 16 houses, the police said.
The police said Kayal had sustained 35 per cent burn injuries and died around 5 pm at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health. Her mother, who suffered 40 per cent burns, succumbed later at 8 pm at Victoria Hospital on Monday.
A police officer said, “Kasturiamma, while under treatment, told the police that she had switched off the cylinder before going to bed. We have now filed the case against the LPG firm. We are waiting for the report from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) who have collected the samples”.
The Adugodi police have registered a case under Section 106 for causing death by negligence and 125 for endangering human life or personal safety through rash or negligent conduct of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against an LPG firm.
