Bengaluru airport tops Digi Yatra with 76.9L users in 2025 till Nov; app downloads hit 1.9Cr nationwide as Delhi, Mumbai, Tier‑2 hubs surge
Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has firmly established itself as the country’s largest hub for Digi Yatra, the facial recognition‑based passenger processing system that has transformed air travel across India. Official figures presented in Parliament show that the platform’s adoption has accelerated nationwide, but Bengaluru continues to dominate usage, underscoring its role as the backbone of the initiative.
According to data shared by the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, cumulative Digi Yatra app downloads have surged from 38 lakh at the end of 2023 to nearly 93 lakh by December 2024, and further to 1.9 crore by November 2025. The service is now operational at 24 airports, with phased expansion planned across the country. Importantly, the government does not fund the programme, with costs borne by airport operators.
Bengaluru has consistently led airport‑wise adoption. In 2024, the airport recorded 75.7 lakh Digi Yatra users, the highest in India, with monthly volumes peaking at 7.18 lakh in October. The momentum carried into 2025, when between January and November, the airport logged 76.9 lakh users. November alone saw 7.52 lakh passengers using the platform, reinforcing Bengaluru’s position as the frontrunner in digital travel facilitation.

Other metro airports are narrowing the gap but remain behind Bengaluru. Delhi registered 63.4 lakh users in 2024 and 57.3 lakh between January and November 2025, while Mumbai saw a sharp rise from 27.1 lakh in 2024 to 50.1 lakh in 2025. Hyderabad maintained steady growth with 36.7 lakh users in 2024 and 37.9 lakh in 2025, whereas Kolkata witnessed a decline, dropping from 35.8 lakh in 2024 to 22.4 lakh in 2025.
Tier‑2 and regional airports have also reported rapid growth since joining the programme in late 2024. Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Cochin showed steady increases, while smaller airports such as Ranchi and Bagdogra crossed 20,000 monthly users by November 2025.
The figures highlight how Bengaluru has not only embraced Digi Yatra more enthusiastically than any other city but also set the benchmark for seamless passenger experience. As adoption spreads, the airport’s leadership underscores its role in shaping India’s digital aviation future.
