The film Ghaati, starring Anushka Shetty in the lead role, is set to release on September 5 in Telugu and Tamil. Directed by Krish and produced by First Frame Entertainment, the film will be distributed across Karnataka by Pushpa Arun Kumar of PA Productions. This marks her debut in film distribution.
At a press conference, director Krish, actor Vikram Prabhu, and distributor Pushpa Arun Kumar participated. Pushpa, who is the mother of actor Rocking Star Yash, stated that she is happy to begin her distribution journey with a film led by Anushka Shetty, whom she described as “our Kannada daughter.” The film will be released across Karnataka through Sridhar Krupa Combines. Talks are also underway to release a Kannada version, with PA Productions planning to handle its distribution.
The story is set in the border regions of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, focusing on communities known as “Ghaatis” who live in the hilly terrain. These individuals, capable of carrying weights of 120–150 kg while climbing mountains, are often exploited for smuggling activities, including ganja transportation. The film highlights their struggles.
Anushka Shetty plays the character of Sheelavati, while Vikram Prabhu appears as Desiraju. According to the makers, the film blends action and emotion, runs for two and a half hours, and has been shot in challenging locations.
Actor Vikram Prabhu, speaking at the event, expressed his fondness for Bengaluru and recalled memories of late actor Puneeth Rajkumar. He shared that he enjoyed playing the role of Desiraju. Director Krish added that no film has explored the lives of the Ghaatis before and thanked Pushpa Arun Kumar for taking up the film’s distribution in Karnataka.
