All four state-run bus services to stay off roads from 6 AM as transport staff stage statewide protest over pending demands.
Amid confusion surrounding the transport staff bandh scheduled for August 5, Anant Subbarao, Chairman of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), has confirmed that the statewide strike will go ahead as planned. Subbarao clarified that there is no postponement, and called on transport workers and the public not to be misled or intimidated by conflicting messages.

Starting 6 AM on Monday, all four government-run bus services, KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC, will remain off the roads, impacting lakhs of commuters across Karnataka. The bandh is in support of the long-pending demands of transport employees, including job regularisation, wage revisions, and improved working conditions.
“This will be a peaceful strike. Don’t fear the warnings or threats. We’ve waited long enough for justice,” Subbarao stated, urging the public to stand with the transport staff instead of opposing the movement.
With the shutdown expected to paralyse public transport in both urban and rural areas, schools, offices, and commuters are advised to make alternate arrangements. The bandh could lead to widespread disruption, particularly in Bengaluru, where BMTC buses form the city’s mobility backbone.
