According to Amazon, this money will be used to boost AI-powered digital growth, increase exports, and create new jobs in India. These plans align with India’s national goals to develop a strong local AI industry.
Amazon expects these efforts to create around 1 million new jobs by the year 2030. The company also aims to increase exports from India to $80 billion and help 15 million small businesses benefit from AI technology.
Experts say India is one of the fastest-growing markets for AI spending in the Asia-Pacific region. Deepika Giri, who leads research on big data and AI at IDC, noted that a key challenge and opportunity is the lack of powerful computer infrastructure needed to run AI programs.
She also pointed out that many countries in Asia are working hard to develop their own AI capabilities, especially since trade issues have made technology more region-focused.
This massive investment shows Amazon’s confidence in India’s growing digital economy. Over the years, Amazon has built many fulfilment centres, data centres, and payment systems in the country to support this growth.
Just recently, Microsoft also announced plans to put $17.5 billion into India’s AI infrastructure, showing how big tech companies are racing to establish themselves in the Indian market.
Amit Agarwal, Amazon’s senior vice president for emerging markets, said, “We feel proud to be part of India’s digital journey for the last 15 years. Looking forward, we want to keep helping India grow by making AI accessible to millions of people.”
This move by Amazon is expected to bring major changes and opportunities in India’s technology landscape in the coming years.
