The Kashmiri doctor set off his Hyundai i20 at one of the busiest tourist destinations in the city a few hours later. Investigators believe that he acted hastily after his associates from the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror module were apprehended alognside 2900 kilogram of explosive materials, assault rifles and other ammunition.
The most radicalised member of the “white-collar” terror group, Umar , was driving the i20 at the time of the explosion. His identification was eventually verified by matching human remains found in the automobile with DNA samples taken from his family members in Pulwama of Kashmir. He was also in contact with a handler named “Ukasa” from Turkey’s Ankara.
It is believed that Umar fled from Faridabad and went via Mewat to Firozpur Jhirka before taking the Delhi–Mumbai Motorway back to Delhi. He slept inside his car at a roadside dhaba beside the highway. He went through Faridabad a second time before returning to Delhi on the morning of the incident via the Badarpur border. He was caught on camera by CCTV along the Delhi–Mumbai Motorway, according to investigators.
The authorities are also looking into Umar’s second vehicle, a red Ford EcoSport, after it was found in a Haryana village. They speculate he and his friends used the car to transport and accumulate ammonium nitrate over time, based on sources.
Kashmiri doctors Adil Ahmed Rather and Muzammil Shakeel (Musaib Ganaie) have also been arrested by the authorities alongside a woman named Dr Shaheen Saeed who was handed over the responsibility of establishing the JeM women wing, Jamaat ul-Mominaat’s base in India and recruit new members by Masood Azhar’s sister, Sadia Azhar. They worked at Al Falah University in Faridabad which is also under scanner.
