According to the police complaint lodged by Darshan’s manager, Nagaraj, Vijayalakshmi had instructed him to take some cash from a cotton box kept inside the wardrobe on September 4, just before she left for Mysuru. After handing over a portion of the money as instructed, Nagaraj claims to have kept the remaining amount back in the same place and locked the flat before leaving. The house keys were handed over to Vijayalakshmi’s mother.
Vijayalakshmi returned to Bengaluru on September 7. When she checked the wardrobe the following day, she found that ₹3 lakh was missing. She and Nagaraj conducted a thorough search of the house but were unable to locate the cash.
