As per reports, the Saha family, including Palash Kanti Saha, Shib Saha, Deepak Saha, Shyamaledu Saha, and Ashok Saha, said that the houses and their belongings were gutted in the fire. The incident happened when most members of the Saha family had gone to visit their relatives. In the morning, Sandhya Saha, an elderly member of the family, went out to perform her morning routine. When she returned, she saw that the house of Palash Kanti Shah was up in flames. When she screamed for help, the fire soon spread to the nearby houses.
Speaking about the incident, Jugol Biswas, an officer at the Pirojpur Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, said that the exact cause of the fire could not be determined. An investigation was initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire. The incident has caused fear among the Hindu community in the area, who are now concerned about their safety.

In a similar incident, a house belonging to a Hindu family was reportedly set on fire in the southeastern port city of Chattogram last week. The incident happened in the early morning hours when the Hindu family was inside the house. They somehow managed to come out of the house by cutting through tin sheets and bamboo fencing. However, all their belongings were burnt in the fire.
Incidents of targeted attacks on Hindus have increased since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh last year. Amid the recent protests that ensued after the killing of Bangladeshi student activist Sharif Osman Hadi, a Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, was lynched and burned alive by an Islamist mob on 18th December.
A few days after the brutal killing of Dipu Chandra Das, another Hindu youth, Amrit Mandal, was beaten to death by a mob in Bangladesh’s Rajbari district on 24th December. In yet another incident, the body of a Hindu man was found floating in a pond in Badalpur village of Ajmiriganj subdivision in the Habiganj district of Bangladesh on 27th December.
