Bangladeshi media on 24 December reported that an Indian national was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for attempting to illegally enter Bangladesh. The detained person has been identified as 25-year-old Biswajit Kumar Das, who was allegedly attempting to enter Bangladesh through the Aditmari upazila border in Lalmonirhat, which borders Cooch Behar in West Bengal.
As per reports, a BGB patrol team of Durgapur border outpost camp under Lalmonirhat 15 BGB Battalion detained the man around 2:00 AM on Wednesday. Biswajit Kumar Das is a resident of Shibbari Chechakhata village in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. BGB recovered 820 Bangladeshi Taka and 800 Indian Rupees in his possession. He was also carrying a photocopy of his Aadhaar Card.
BGB said that the Indian man entered Bangladesh through the Kauarchar area near sub-pillar 5 of border pillar No. 925. The BGB patrol team saw him in the area, around 700 yards inside Bangladesh, and detained him.
Commanding Officer of Lalmonirhat 15 BGB Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam said that Das has been handed over to Aditmari Police Station after filing a case against him on charges of illegal infiltration.
