In an effort to enhance safety in the city, the Bengaluru police have partnered with cab aggregators Ola and Uber to integrate emergency response technology. This integration enables riders using the ride-hailing apps to connect directly with the police helpline number 112.
With the New Year around the corner, the city police announced the collaboration on Monday and said that the response mechanism would facilitate quicker action than before.
Seemant Kumar Singh, City Police Commissioner, Bengaluru, said, “As part of this initiative, emergency call facilities have been incorporated within the Uber and Ola mobile applications used for booking rides. Through this integration, riders and drivers seeking emergency assistance can directly share real-time location data, trip details, and contact information with Bengaluru City Police’s 112 emergency response infrastructure from within the Uber/Ola app itself.”
The flow of critical information enables quicker police access during emergencies, facilitating faster response times and potentially life-saving interventions by first responders. The initiative is a significant step towards leveraging technology partnerships to ensure safer urban mobility and improved public safety, he added.
Sooraj Nair, Head – Safety Operations, Uber India and South Asia, said, the partnership reflected the company’s continued investment in technology-led solutions and close collaboration with law enforcement to support the safety of riders and driver-partners.
“Safety is central to the Uber experience. By integrating our in-app emergency assistance directly with the Bangalore City Police, we’re enabling faster access to critical information when it matters most,” Nair said.
