On Friday (12th December) night, a Hindu man named Tushar was stabbed to death by a Muslim mob in the Khatima town in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand.
According to police, the incident happened between 9:30 and 10:00 pm on Friday. Victim Tushar and two others, named Salman and Abhay, were standing at a tea stall near the bus station. They got into an argument with some Muslim men from Gotia Islamnagar, with whom they had some old rivalry. Soon, the arguments escalated into a fight, and the Muslim men pulled out knives.
As per locals, the attackers shouted “He is a Hindu, stab him with knife”, before brutally stabbing 24-year-old Tushar to death. Salman and Abhay also sustained injuries in the attack. All three of them were taken to a hospital where Tushar succumbed to his injuries, and Salman and Abhay were referred to another hospital for treatment. The attackers fled the scene.
Family claims the accused announced that Tushar needed to be stabbed because he was a Hindu:

Tushar used to work in a transport company located on Pilibhit Road. He got married a year and a half ago. The incident outraged the victim’s family and the locals who gathered outside the Khatima police post and protested. They demanded immediate action against the attackers. Communal tensions have flared up in the area. Teams of police have been formed to look out for the culprits.
Bulldozer action on encroachment by the father of the culprit
Following the incident, Hindu organisations and angry locals imposed a bandh. They set the tea shop of the father of the attackers on fire and took out a procession in the town demanding action against the attackers. To prevent the situation from deteriorating, the police intervened and dispersed the crowd through lathicharge.
However, in the evening, the administration took strong action against encroachment in the area. The administration bulldozed all the shops illegally built on Public Works Department land, including the shop of the father of one of the culprits. Speaking about the bulldozer action of the administration, Khatima Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tushar Saini said that the area where encroachment existed had become a hangout spot for anti-social elements and drug addicts. The administration used to receive regular complaints from the area. Therefore, the action against encroachment was taken.
