On 3rd December, a case of rape, intimidation, forced conversion and blackmail came to light in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore after the complaint of a woman. The accused, identified as Hams Sheikh, has been arrested by the Tilak Nagar police with the help of Hindu groups. He has also been booked under the Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom Act.
The woman and the perpetrator have been classmates at Devi Ahilya University. The victim disclosed that she had refused his marriage proposal at the time. Afterward, he distanced himself from her for some time but later expressed remorse and rekindled their friendship. However, on 26th July, Hams went to her residence and raped her after which he proceeded to persistently blackmail her.
Meanwhile, the woman got married in August, hoping that the torment would end. However, he not only forced her into marrying him but even pressured her to convert to Islam. Troubled, she shared her ordeal with her husband and lodged a complaint at the Tilak Nagar police station.
The distressed complainant reported that the offender had even harassed her while she was commuting to and from college. She had reached out for assistance from Hindu organisations and activists of Karni Sena. With their support, the Muslim man was captured in Pipliyahana and subsequently taken to the authorities.
