A man’s Hindu identity resulted in his assault in Shivamogga of Karnataka. Harish stated that a 4 guys questioned him “Are you a Muslim or a Hindu,” at 11:15 pm on 15th November and proceeded to beat as well as rob him when he revealed his religious identity. The incident happened when he was strolling close to Party Kasana at 2nd Cross Down, according to the FIR.
They grabbed Rs 50,000 from his pocket as well as hit him in the eye and nose. They even threatened him with a knife and demanded that he take off his gold ring as soon as he mentioned, “I am a Hindu.” The complainant highlighted that although he was able to flee, they pursued, apprehended and attacked again. However, a cyclist went by which caused the assailants to run away.
Harish received treatment at two hospitals and voiced that his fear had kept him at home for two days. Police have opened an investigation and filed a case after he submitted a complaint on 17th November.
Afterward, BJP leader and Shivamogga MLA SN Channabasappa took the victim to the Doddapete Police Station and slammed the Shivamogga police. He questioned if the city had a functional police system and asserted that officers were failing to uphold their fundamental responsibility to ensure public safety.
Channabasappa remarked that locals no longer felt comfortable approaching the police and that they were “interfering in civil disputes instead of protecting citizens” during his visit to the station. He accused the department of disclosing the identity of complainants and added that even MLAs were pushed into filing complaints on behalf of the people. The MLA asked for prompt responses and action from the police, regarding the delay and worsening state of law and order in the area.
