A 62-year-old mentally ill man was arrested for sending an email threatening that a Metro station would be blown up if employees of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) “mentally tortured” his ex-wife “after duty hours”, the police said on Tuesday.
According to the police, the official email ID of BMRCL received an email threat from rajivsettyptp@gmail.com at around 11.25 pm on November 13.
“If ever I come to know that your metro employees are torturing mentally to my past divorced wife Padmini after duty hours, be careful, one of your metro station gets blasted … I am also a terrorists liker PATRIOTIC against KANNADIGAS,” the email read.
The police identified the sender of the email as Rajiv, a resident of Belthur.
Akshay M Hakke, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), said that Rajiv had been treated at Bengaluru’s Nimhans for the past five years for mental illness. “A diploma holder, Rajiv was married and separated from his wife 15 years ago. She was not a Metro employee as he mentioned in the threat email,” the DCP said.
Akshay M Hakke further said that Rajiv was living alone in a rented room and that his friends and family members would help him.
The Wilson Garden police registered an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 351 (criminal intimidation) after Rathish Thomas, Assistant Executive Engineer (Cybersecurity), BMRCL, filed a complaint about the email threat.
