According to the police, the deceased woman has been identified as Nanki Devi, 45, a resident of Mysuru who originally hailed from Haryana.
They added that the vehicle carrying Devi’s body attracted the attention of forest department personnel after the driver tried to take a turn, apparently to avoid a routine check.
Thereafter, forest officials discovered the woman’s body and questioned the three men travelling in the car. The three have been identified as Rakesh Kumar, 43, who is also Devi’s husband, Satvir Chauhan, 33, and Vikas, 32. Kumar and the two other men worked as carpenters in Metagalli in Mysuru city.
During the interrogation, Kumar allegedly claimed that his wife had died by suicide before he returned home on Friday night. Afterwards, he decided to bury her in Kodagu without informing the police.
“Rakesh had borrowed a car from a friend and shifted the body… When we visited their residence on Monday, their neighbours also told us that Nanki had died by suicide. But we are yet to conduct a post-mortem,” a police officer said.
The Siddapura police said the body has been shifted to a mortuary. “We are waiting for Nanki’s brother’s arrival. He lives in Haryana. After getting due permission, the post-mortem will be conducted to ascertain the reason behind Nanki’s death. We have left off Rakesh and the two others for now. During the probe, it was revealed that this was Nanki’s second marriage. After their marriage, they stayed in Mysuru for the last two years. According to Rakesh, Nanki’s health had been unwell for a while, and it could be the reason for her suicide,” a police officer at the Siddapura police station said.
