Officials revealed that the three suspects had been on the radar of the ATS for almost a year. They were caught while trying to supply weapons in Gujarat. The ATS team said that the terrorists had come to the state to exchange weapons and were planning to carry out attacks at several locations across India. The trio belongs to two different terror modules, and further investigation is going on to find out their possible targets and contacts.
According to the ATS, the officers are now trying to gather more information from their network and the places where they planned to strike. The ATS has not shared all the details yet, as the investigation is still underway.
This is not the first time that Gujarat ATS has foiled a major terror plan this year. A few months earlier, in July, the team had arrested five terrorists of the outfit Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). Among them was a woman from Bengaluru who was operating an online terror module with links to handlers in Pakistan.
The five arrested individuals include Fardin Sheikh, Saifulla Qureshi, Mohammad Faiq, and Zeeshan Ali. They were picked up by ATS officers on July 22 for spreading extremist ideas of the AQIS group on social media sites. During the operation, the police also recovered a semi-automatic pistol and live bullets from Zeeshan Ali’s house.
The gun was recovered from his residence in Noida during a follow-up raid. This recovery was made based on the information shared by Zeeshan after questioning. The operation was carried out by Police Inspector Nikhil Brahmbhatt and Police Sub-Inspector A.R. Chaudhary under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Virajeetsinh Parmar.
The arrested group is accused of encouraging people to take part in violent acts under the banner of “Ghazwa-e-Hind,” calling for an armed uprising against India’s elected government, and spreading hate against non-Muslims.
The ATS has registered a case against them under different sections of the Unlawful Activities Act, 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Later, on July 27, the ATS also arrested Shama Parveen from Bengaluru, identified as one of the main terrorists of this online module. Her arrest added new leads to the expanding investigation. Officials said they are continuing to uncover how these groups were operating and coordinating terror activities across different states.
