A 65-year-old woman in Bengaluru was found murdered at her residence on Monday afternoon, when her husband was out for work. The police said that the ‘mangalsutra’ of the deceased woman, identified as Srilakshmi, a resident of Uttarahalli, is missing.
The police suspect that the woman has been murdered, allegedly by persons known to her.
According to the police, the woman’s husband, Ashwath Narayan, 70, who left for work around 9.30 am, grew concerned when his wife’s phone remained unreachable since 2 pm. So he contacted their tenant, Paniraj, around 5.30 pm, and subsequently, Paniraj’s wife found Srilakshmi lying motionless on the floor when she went to check on her.
“Narayana immediately rushed home and, with help from neighbours, moved his wife onto the bed. Upon examination, he noticed injuries on the right side of her neck, face, and lips. Her ‘mangalsutra’ was also missing from her neck,” said an officer.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Srilakshmi’s sister, Sampati Lakshmi, had spoken with her around 1 pm, during which Srilakshmi mentioned that a couple was at her home to check her television, and that she had stepped outside to talk on the phone.
A police officer said that they are trying to zero in on the couple who had visited the house. The police suspect that the murder occurred between 1 pm and 6 pm.
“We are questioning a few people, and teams have been formed to nab the accused,” a police officer added.
