After 31 years, the iconic title ‘Yarigu Helbedi’ returns to the Kannada film industry—this time not as a social drama, but as a comedy film. The original film, starring Ananth Nag and directed by Kodlu Ramakrishna, left a lasting impact. Now, in 2025, the title reappears with a fresh twist, bringing laughter and suspense to the big screen.
Produced by Harish, an engineering graduate from Ananthapur who is also involved in real estate, this new Yarigu Helbedi is a remake of the Telugu comedy ‘Meeku Maathrame Cheptha’, which was released in 2019. Although the remake rights were secured early, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the production. Harish, however, is confident that the film will emerge as a hilarious entertainer.
Chetan Vicky—known for his roles in TV serials and films like Hosa Dinachari and Mary—plays the lead role. Speaking about his character, Chetan said, “To cover up one lie, the character ends up telling a series of lies, which eventually affects his marriage with the female protagonist.” The female lead, played by Chytra Achar, was not present at the media meet. Chetan expressed strong confidence in the film’s success when it hits theaters next Friday.
Shivaraj, who penned the dialogues, mentioned that the trailer itself gives enough clues to keep the audience intrigued and excited.
Appanna, known for his comic timing from Comedy Kiladigalu and last seen in Pailwan, returns to the big screen with a significant role. He teams up with Chetan Vicky in what is described as a full-on comedy film, lasting two hours and five minutes. “It’s a content-driven comedy,” he assures.
Shabaresh, playing the role of Paapa, portrays a hacker. He shared that filming began during the second lockdown, with most of the shoot taking place in Bengaluru.
Anand is the director of cinematography, while Shashank Sheshagiri has composed music for two songs in the film. Ashwini, who plays the role of Jacqueline, recalled the nonstop laughter on set and praised the strong comic chemistry between Chetan and Appanna.
Director Shiva Ganesh, known for Jigar Thanda, could not attend the pre-release media meet due to commitments with another project.
