A 19-year-old BBA student was found dead at her residence in Bengaluru on Friday, with her father alleging that she died by suicide because of harassment by a senior student of her college.
The police identified the deceased as Sana Parvin, a second-year BBA student at Koshys College who was living on rent with three others at Green Garden Layout in Kadusonnappanahalli.
Her father Abdul Nazeer, a resident of Kodagu district, stated in his police complaint that he had received a phone call at around 11 am on Friday from Parvin’s teacher that she had fallen unconscious.
When he reached Dr BR Ambedkar Hospital at 5 pm, Parvin’s friends informed him that she had died by suicide at around 10 am.
Nazeer alleged that one Reefas from Thrissur, Kerala, who was known to Sana through college circles, had been subjecting her to mental torture, abuse, and blackmail through phone calls and messages. He further stated that just a day before the incident, on Thursday, Reefas had left the town. He alleged that the continuous harassment by Reefas had led to his daughter’s death, and demanded strict legal action.
According to the FIR registered on his complaint, Nazeer had informed Amala Sen, head of the department for BBA (aviation) at her college, of the harassment by Reefas, and she had warned the man not to trouble Parvin.
The Bagalur police have registered a case under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the investigation is underway. The police are yet to arrest Reefas.
