The Election Commission announces Bihar’s two-phase polls as NDA, INDIA bloc, and Prashant Kishor’s Suuraj Party prepare for a high-stakes political battle.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the schedule for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, setting the stage for a multi-cornered political battle that could redefine the state’s political landscape.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, revealed that voting will take place in two phases on November 6 and 11, while counting will be held on November 14, and the results declared on November 22.

The Commission’s decision came after meetings with top Bihar officials in Patna to assess security, logistics, and enforcement preparedness. The ECI aims to ensure free, fair, and inducement-free polls, especially as political temperatures rise in the run-up to voting.
While the JD(U) urged for single-phase polling, citing stable law and order, the ECI decided on a two-phase format for logistical efficiency. Political parties had earlier requested the polls to be held post-Chhath festival, ensuring participation of migrant voters returning home.

Adding to the political intrigue, Prashant Kishor’s Suraaj Party has officially entered the fray, positioning itself as a challenger to both major alliances. Kishor, a political strategist-turned-leader, expects that “people will vote against Nitish Kumar”.
Seat-sharing talks for both the NDA and INDIA alliances are expected to conclude later this week. In the 2020 elections, the BJP won 74 seats, JD(U) bagged 43, while the Mahagathbandhan (RJD, Congress, and Left) secured 110 seats, a close finish that set the stage for this rematch.
With less than a month to go, Bihar’s political battlefield is set, Nitish Kumar’s leadership, Tejashwi Yadav’s resurgence, and Prashant Kishor’s emergence will define the state’s next political chapter.
