Two labourers were killed and another was injured after a mudslide at an under-construction building site in Bengaluru on Tuesday. This is the second such incident in the city in a month.
The incident occurred at a site where a commercial building was coming up at Sidharta Colony in Koramangala. At around 6.30 pm, eight labourers were working at the site when mud from a pillar supporting the 20-foot-deep basement excavation suddenly gave way, burying the men, the police said.
After the police were alerted at 7.15 pm, a team led by Sarah Fathima, Deputy Commissioner of Police, arrived at the spot.
While five workers managed to escape unharmed, Lal Muddin, 32, and Razauddin Ansari, 33, who hailed from Jharkhand, were pulled out from the debris and pronounced dead at the scene. Saifulla, 28, sustained injuries but is now stable and receiving treatment, as per the police.
Ansari’s brother, Sakir, filed a complaint with the Madiwala police. Sources said that while the property owner had taken necessary permissions, safety measures were in question.
In the first week of September, J Shiva, 32, and Madhusudhan Reddy, 58, were buried alive while installing modular rainwater harvesting boxes at an under-construction site in Bengaluru’s Yelahanka. The Bengaluru police had booked 14 people, including the head of real estate firm Embassy Group, at the time.
