A 29-year-old man, who returned from Dubai last month, allegedly killed his wife and later died by suicide in Bengaluru Sunday night.
The incident occurred near the Ullal main road, within the Jnanabharathi police limits. The deceased were identified as Dharmaseelan Ramesh, a labourer, and his wife Manju P, 27, who worked as a nurse at a local clinic. The couple had been married since 2022, said the police.
The incident came to light around 9.30 pm when Manju’s father, Periyaswamy, 53, returned from Tumakuru, where he had been working as a labourer for two weeks. Periyaswamy arrived with his nephew and others, and he grew suspicious when he found the third-floor apartment locked, with no response from inside. After forcefully opening the doors, he saw Manju’s body on the bed with neck injuries, as well as Ramesh’s body.
According to the FIR filed by Periyaswamy, the couple initially lived in Pinnalavadi, Tamil Nadu, Ramesh’s hometown, for a year after their wedding. Two years ago, Ramesh relocated to Dubai in search of employment opportunities. During his absence, Manju moved to Bengaluru to stay with her father and secured nursing work at a local clinic.
The police said Ramesh returned from Dubai approximately one month ago, prompting Manju to relocate to Pinnalavadi to be with him temporarily. She returned to Bengaluru 15 days before the incident to resume her nursing duties. Just three days before the murder-suicide, Ramesh allegedly contacted Periyaswamy, expressing his intention to come to Bengaluru for work, and received his father-in-law’s approval.
A police officer said Ramesh wanted to take his wife to Tamil Nadu and asked her to resign from her job. “Though Ramesh pursued it for some time, Manju always refused. It appears that the couple may have argued, and in a fit of rage, Ramesh killed his wife,” the officer added.
The Jnanabharathi police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
