Bengaluru’s RV Road–Bommasandra Metro stretch is set to experience significant relief from overcrowding as the fifth six-coach train is slated to join the Yellow Line service by mid-October. The addition will decrease the waiting time between trains from the current 19 minutes to just 15 minutes, alleviating congestion during peak travel times.

Manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems, the new train has already been dispatched and is expected to be handed over to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) by the end of this month. After undergoing inspections and trial runs at the Hebbagodi depot, the train will be ready for commercial use by mid-October. Currently, the Yellow Line operates with four trains covering the 19.15 km stretch, with services initially starting in August using three trains at 25-minute intervals. The introduction of the fourth train on September 10 reduced this interval to 19 minutes.
Daily ridership to surpass 90,000
The line has seen a sharp increase in ridership, from 50,000 daily passengers at launch to around 84,000 currently. With the addition of the fifth train, officials project daily ridership will surpass 90,000.
The expansion is also helping reduce traffic congestion along the busy RV Road–Bommasandra corridor. A study by Bengaluru Traffic Police shows a significant decrease in morning and evening congestion, with the new service contributing to lower road traffic and improved air quality.
Titagarh Rail Systems is contracted to deliver 15 trains for the Yellow Line, with the sixth set expected by November.
