IndiGo has expanded its eco-friendly ground transport fleet by introducing six electric buses at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru. The airline has procured the Skyline Pro-E 12m model from Eicher Trucks and Buses, marking another step in its strategy to make airport operations more sustainable.
The newly deployed vehicles are designed specifically for tarmac operations. Each bus measures 12 metres in length, 2.6 metres in width, and has a 6-metre wheelbase with a ground clearance of 185 mm. Built to carry up to 69 passengers, the configuration includes seating for 17 and space for 52 standing travelers, ensuring efficient movement between terminals and aircraft.

These buses offer a maximum speed of 75 km/h and can cover up to 300 km on a single charge. Passenger comfort is enhanced by features such as air conditioning and air suspension at both ends.
The order represents the first deployment of Eicher’s electric buses for tarmac applications. Eicher Trucks and Buses is part of VE Commercial Vehicles, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors.
IndiGo has been steadily electrifying ground transport across airports. Earlier this year, electric buses were added at Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram airports, while the airline converted its Ahmedabad tarmac bus fleet to fully electric last year.
