The 64th Sessions Court today postponed the hearing of a petition filed by jail authorities seeking to transfer actor Darshan to Bellary jail in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. Darshan, along with several others, is currently lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
The authorities had sought to move Darshan and his co-accused to different prisons across Karnataka, citing administrative reasons. However, Darshan’s counsel strongly opposed the move, arguing that the impending trial requires his client’s presence in Bengaluru. The lawyer added that a transfer to Bellary would severely affect legal consultations and court appearances. He also highlighted Darshan’s mother’s ill health, which would make it difficult for her to visit her son if shifted.

Actor’s legal team files application requesting basic facilities in jail
Meanwhile, the actor’s legal team filed an application requesting basic facilities in jail, including clothes, bedding, a pillow, and a bedsheet, as per the jail manual. They contended that even minimum provisions have not been extended to the actor and sought a court directive to ensure compliance. The court has reserved its order on this plea for September 2.
In a parallel development, A1 accused Pavithra Gowda, also lodged in the same case, renewed her bail plea. Senior advocate Balan argued on technical grounds, claiming that the chargesheet filed under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) is invalid after the implementation of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). He maintained that investigations initiated before July 1, 2024, should have transitioned under BNSS provisions.
The prosecution countered this claim, insisting that cases registered before the new law came into effect remain governed by CrPC. After hearing both sides, the court reserved its order on Pavithra Gowda’s bail plea for September 2.
The next hearing will also address the petition on shifting Darshan to Bellary jail.
