The Bengaluru police recently arrested two Congolese nationals, including a woman, and recovered 2.15 kg of synthetic drug MDMA valued at over Rs 5 crore after a tip-off.
The accused have been identified as Joel Kabong, 28, and Joy Sunday, 22, both of whom arrived in India from Congo on student visas. The police said Kabong is an MBA dropout who moved to Bengaluru 12 years ago and has since overstayed his visa to profit from the drug trade. Joy Sunday, a BA graduate, is a resident of Vidyaranyapura, they said.
“The arrests happened in the Electronics City division after our crime staff grew suspicious of a man (Kabobg) and they shadowed him and arrested him,” Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said.
The police said Kabong was arrested with 180 grams of MDMA in Electronics City while he was awaiting customers from private firms and students in a commercial area. The interrogation of Kabong led to Joy Sunday, who was identified as Kabong’s supplier.
“When the arrested person was questioned, he said that he had purchased the banned drug MDMA crystal from a foreign woman (Joy Sunday) he knew at a low price and was selling it to the general public and college students at a higher price,” the police said.
“On the information given by the accused, a foreign woman who was supplying MDMA crystals was arrested near Doddathogur Cross. When the arrested woman was questioned, she confessed that she had purchased MDMA crystals from another foreigner she knew at a low price,” a police officer said.
Based on the information given by the two accused, 1.5 kg of MDMA crystals were seized from a house in Vidyaranyapura in north Bengaluru and another 456 grams from another residence in Hulimavu in southeast Bengaluru.
