Seamless travel begins as NHAI’s new one-time toll payment plan witnesses record demand on Independence Day rollout.
The FASTag Annual Pass made a thunderous debut on August 15, clocking 1.4 lakh activations within hours of launch, according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). By 7 pm on rollout day, nearly 1.39 lakh toll transactions had already been processed under the scheme.

NHAI described the response as “overwhelming,” with the Rajmargyatra App witnessing 20,000-25,000 concurrent users throughout the day. Annual Pass holders also received instant SMS updates reflecting zero toll deductions, ensuring smooth travel experiences.
To manage the spike in activations, nodal officers were deployed at all 1,150 toll plazas across the country, while the 1033 National Highway Helpline was bolstered with 100 additional executives.

The pass, priced at Rs 3,000 for non-commercial vehicles, covers either 200 toll crossings or one year of highway travel, whichever comes first. Activation is enabled within two hours via the Rajmargyatra App or the NHAI website.
Officials said the scheme aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of technology-driven citizen services, aimed at making highway travel cost-effective, efficient, and hassle-free. With over 8 crore FASTag users and 98% penetration, authorities believe the Annual Pass will further strengthen India’s digital tolling ecosystem.
