IndiGo has commenced work on its long-planned Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. The development marks a strategic step for India’s largest airline as it seeks to expand capacity while reducing dependence on overseas maintenance providers.

Expanse of the MRO facility
Spread across 31 acres, the upcoming hangar will rank among the country’s largest. The project follows a land lease agreement finalized with Bengaluru International Airport Limited in May 2025. Once operational, the facility is set to be three times the size of IndiGo’s current combined MRO operations in Delhi and Bengaluru. It will feature 12 bays capable of handling both narrowbody and widebody aircraft, covering the carrier’s Airbus A320s, A321XLRs, and future A350s.
The new hub will also reinforce IndiGo’s growing presence in Bengaluru, which already serves as one of its busiest bases with over 200 daily flights. Construction is expected to conclude by early 2028, creating a significant number of technical and logistics jobs. IndiGo has announced plans to recruit more than 1,000 maintenance professionals in the city.
Bengaluru continues to emerge as a strong aviation services cluster. Air India is advancing its own widebody MRO complex at the airport, scheduled to open in 2026. In addition, global players such as Thales and Collins Aerospace have recently launched engineering and development centers, while Indian firm HaveUs Aerotech set up a large spares warehouse last year.
