The first dry day, August 15, marks Independence Day, a compulsory nationwide observance during which alcohol sales are prohibited under national regulations. All licensed outlets will remain shut to ensure compliance.
The following day, August 16, coincides with Janmashtami, a major Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna. While not universally designated a dry day in all states, Karnataka has traditionally enforced such restrictions during prominent religious events. Authorities are expected to issue a formal notification confirming the Janmashtami ban closer to the date.
Later in the month, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on August 27. The festival, which draws large gatherings for worship and cultural activities, is also anticipated to be a dry day in Bengaluru and other regions of Karnataka.
Alcohol ban during 10-day Ganesh festivities?
The 10-day Ganesh festivities will conclude on September 6 with Anant Chaturdashi, when processions and idol immersions take place across the city. Although the first day of the festival is officially recognized as a dry day, the Excise Department may consider extending restrictions to manage heavy crowds during the visarjan processions.
Residents are urged to abstain from liquor on these dry days and no exemptions will be permitted on the announced dry days.
