Phase 3 alignment tweak between Kanteerava Studio and Yeshwantpur trims route length, saves ₹669 crore, and avoids complex high-rise structures at Peenya.
In a bid to streamline construction and ease traffic snarls near Goraguntepalya Junction, Namma Metro has revised its Phase 3 corridor plan, trimming the elevated stretch between JP Nagar 4th Phase and Kempapura by roughly 200 metres.
The new 2.30 km stretch from Kanteerava Studio flyover to Yeshwantpur railway yard is expected to cut costs by ₹669 crore. The move comes after engineers flagged technical difficulties and high costs linked to the original route, which required a sharp turn towards Peenya metro station and viaducts as tall as 46.5 metres to clear a double-decker flyover.

By bypassing Peenya’s steep road gradient and operational metro track, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) can avoid complex construction over live infrastructure. Instead, the new route will pass through defence and ALISDA land, providing smoother traffic flow between Kanteerava Studio and BEL Circle.
To ensure passenger convenience, the proposal includes adding two travellators linking Peenya and Goraguntepalya stations. This alignment change received clearance at a recent high-powered committee meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, following an earlier nod from Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in February.
According to officials, the updated plan strikes a balance between engineering practicality, cost savings, and commuter requirements, ensuring the Phase 3 project stays on schedule.
