Several talented actors from the Kannada film industry have already established themselves in other language film industries, while some are just beginning to make their mark. Adding to that list is Mandya-born actor Prabhakar Boregowda, who is making his Tamil cinema debut with confidence and anticipation. A familiar face in Kannada television, Prabhakar has acted in numerous serials over the past two decades, and has also drawn attention for his negative roles in various films. Now, he tests his fortunes in Tamil cinema through the film ‘Accused’.
Directed by Prabhu Srinivas, Accused features Prabhakar Boregowda in the main antagonist role. The film also stars Uday, Yogi Babu, Ajmal, and Janhvik, among others. Scheduled for a worldwide release on August 1, the film’s trailer has already garnered positive response, and Prabhakar is hopeful that this opportunity will bring further recognition.
Originally from Mandya, Prabhakar developed a love for the arts at a young age. After completing his engineering studies, he moved to Bengaluru, received training in theatre, and went on to perform in numerous stage productions. He later transitioned to television, appearing in over 5,000 episodes. Some of his notable serials include Kapicheshthe, Kunkuma Bhagya, Soundarya Lahari, Manglya, and Punyakoti — the latter running for 2,000 episodes. His performance in Maneyondu Mooru Bagilu in a negative role also stood out. Veteran writer A.G. Sheshadri cast him as a lead in Punyakoti, after which he played hero roles in several series.
While actively engaged in TV serials, he also managed his own business. Eventually, he decided to shift his focus to cinema. His film debut was as a villain in Kariya 2, followed by performances in Aham Brahmasmi with Sanchari Vijay, among other films. Negative roles came naturally and frequently, a trend he still enjoys. His recent performance in Rudra Garuda Purana also received attention.
The upcoming Tamil film Accused is seen as a new milestone in Prabhakar Boregowda’s career. As the lead antagonist, he believes in the film’s fresh concept and hopes it will open new doors. The film is said to be packed with action, and he’s satisfied with the collaboration he had with senior artists and technicians. Early viewers of the trailer have praised his performance, and some Tamil directors are reportedly approaching him with new scripts. Confident about finding a foothold in Kollywood, Prabhakar joins the ranks of Kannada actors venturing into other language industries with ambition.
