The much-debated survey on Scheduled Caste (SC) households conducted by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been completed, with the civic body revealing that over 7.22 lakh SC individuals reside within its jurisdiction. The month-long survey, which covered 34.4 lakh households across Bengaluru, was carried out cost the BBMP more than ₹3 crore.

Special Commissioner Vikas Kishore Suralkar confirmed the findings, stating that 1.92 lakh households in the city belong to Scheduled Caste communities. These findings come amid earlier controversies regarding the survey methodology and purpose, with concerns raised over privacy, classification, and data transparency.
Despite the opposition, the BBMP maintained that the survey was essential for improving targeted welfare measures and ensuring accurate data for resource allocation to historically disadvantaged communities. The data is now being compiled into a formal report which will be submitted to state authorities for policy consideration.
