Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar Monday informed that three new stretches of Bengaluru Metro, spanning a total length of 41.01 km, will become operational in the coming year.
The first of the three launches will be a Pink Line stretch connecting Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, consisting of an elevated section of 7.5 km with six stations. This stretch is expected to open in May 2026. A 13.76 km underground section of the line running from Dairy Circle to Nagawara with 12 stations is expected to be commissioned in December 2026, stated a note issued by Shivakumar’s office, following his meeting with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials.
The third line expected to be operational is part of the Blue Line, also called the Airport line. “Phase-2A is from Central Silk Board to Krishnarajapura, having a length of 19.75 km along Outer Ring Road with 13 Elevated Stations is slated for opening in December 2026,” according to the note.
With these launches, the operational length of Bengaluru Metro will grow from the existing 96.1 km to 137.11 km.
Phase-2B of the Blue Line, which will complete the metro line from Southern Bengaluru to the Kempegowda International Airport at Devanahalli, will be open in 2027. While the stretch from Hebbal to the Airport will be opened in June 2027, the 11 km Hebbal to Krishnarajapura stretch is expected to be operational in December 2027.
Addressing a news conference, Shivakumar said that Detailed Project Reports were being prepared to extend metro lines to Tavarekere, Hosakote, Bidadi and Nelamangala. A tender will be floated next month for 100 km of metro network, including a double-decker corridor, under Phase 3. “The projected cost of Phase 3 of Namma Metro is Rs 25,311 crore. We are financing Rs 15,600 crore for the project through JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). The tender for works to the tune of Rs 9,700 crore will be called in January,” he said.
